Getting Ready for Your New Floor — A Simple Prep Checklist
Quick answer: In the week before, confirm the delivery, plan where furniture will go, and sort out kids and pets. The day before, clear the rooms, empty wardrobe floors, and take down anything fragile. On the day, make sure there's clear access and power, then let the installers get to work. Your new floor can be walked on as soon as it's finished.
One to two weeks before
Confirm your delivery. We'll call to arrange a time. Someone needs to be home to receive the pallet.
Plan where the boxes will go. Keep them flat, dry and inside — a spare room or garage floor is fine, not a damp shed or out in the sun.
Ask about furniture moving if it's part of your quote, or line up some helpers.
Book any other trades. If a plumber needs to disconnect a fridge water line or dishwasher, book them now.
Plan for pets and kids. A day at Grandma's or a friend's place keeps everyone safe and happy.
The day before
Clear the rooms. Furniture, rugs, pot plants and anything on the floor.
Empty wardrobe floors if the new floor is going into the robes.
Take down fragile items like mirrors, frames and ornaments on nearby shelves.
Remove floor-standing items from hallways and doorways.
Unplug electronics in the rooms being done.
Vacuum if the old floor is staying underneath (for example tiles or lino).
Installation day
Clear access to the house and a parking spot close to the door.
Power — installers need access to power points for their tools.
A clear path from the boxes to the rooms.
Pets secured away from the work area.
Point out anything important — doors that stick, sensitive areas, where trims should go.
After installation
Walk on it straight away. Hybrid floats and isn't glued, so there's no waiting.
Felt pads on furniture before it goes back in.
Lift, don't drag heavy furniture.
Keep a spare box of flooring for any future repairs.
Keep your receipt and product details for your warranty.
First clean: vacuum, then a damp mop with a pH-neutral cleaner. Read how to maintain hybrid flooring.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to move out?
Usually not. Work is done room by room where possible, and you can walk on the floor as soon as it's laid.
Can I stay home during installation?
Yes. Just stay clear of the work area — it keeps you safe and lets the installers work quickly.
How long will it take?
Many rooms are done in a day or two. See our job timeline guide.
